When it comes to branding no company can boast more impressive longevity than the British tea brand Twinings of London. Building a brand with such stamina is no easy feat, especially in the age of exponential evolutions in graphic design. Many brands opt for revisions and logo redesigns over time, so to see the same branding and logo in use for hundreds of years is nothing to sniff at.

Their serif-font current logo was first created in 1787 and is still in use today. This is surprising considering that the brand was purchased by a British multinational food processing and retailing company in 1964. Founded in 1706, Twinings is an English tea brand and tea marketer based in Andover, Hampshire. The brand is currently owned by Associated British Foods, headquartered in London, but was originally founded by Thomas Twining when he opened Britain’s first tea room. The tea room is surprisingly still open and patronized today and can be found occupying its original location on the Strand, at No. 216. twinings of london Twinings is known for selling a variety of regional, specialty, and flavored teas including; smoked Lapsang Souchong, Lady Grey (an oil scented black tea), and Darjeeling (the partially oxidized Bengali tea). They also carry various infusions, coffees, and hot chocolate.

Twinings is also associated with Earl Grey tea, a distinctly British bergamot-infused variety of tea. However, it’s unclear how or when the association began or how involved the company was in crafting and contributing to this well-known variety. Jacksons of Piccadilly, a former rival that was taken over by Twinings in the 1960s, also has associations with the Earl Grey tea blend. Once known only for its specialty teas, Twinings introduced it’s cheaper, generic "Everyday Tea" brand in 2005. A year later Twinings began production of a tinned chocolate drink, and in 2007, also launched tinned coffee selections into the market for consumers. Twinings still produce the majority of its UK-consumed tea at its Andover, Hamshire factory. However, in 2011 Twinings has also expanded production operations to China and Poland. While their operations and products may represent the consumer needs of a growing global tea company - with £107 million ($140 million) in sales in 2015 - their classy, simple logo remains steeped in tradition and a testament to their humble roots.
