Outdoor Education Games

There are many ways to make learning fun, and outdoor education games are a fine example of just how fun learning can be. In addition to making learning a fun and exciting experience, outdoor education games also offer the added advantage of exercising the body as well as the brain.

Outdoor education games tend to fall into a few general categories. Among the most popular are those that teach about the natural environment while engaging in games that also feature fun physical activity. One of the time honored classics of these types of outdoor education games is the scavenger hunt. Participants are given a list of objects that have to do with what they’ve learned – such as different types of plants or rocks – divided up into teams, and sent out to find the items, with prized offered to the team that gets everything on their list first.

Other outdoor education games may simply focus on physical education outside. These are more about getting exercise and strengthening the body, taking advantage of the invigorating atmosphere that is offered outside of the gym. Still others may have a more academic focus, again using the change of atmosphere and the fresh air to sharpen the mind and make the whole experience more enjoyable.

Outdoor education games come in a broad range of types and forms. Investigating all the options will turn up a wealth of learning opportunities on all sorts of subjects, all the while combining fun to make that learning exciting and memorable. There are many outdoor learning games that require little or no equipment, making them affordable and accessible to all who are interested in integrating them into their education programs. Those that do require equipment tend to be easy to pack up and take along, and are typically reasonably priced.

Outdoor education games can make a real difference in how much of a given lesson or learning goal is retained. In addition to being great fun, outdoor education games can be valuable teaching tools.
