Canadian Tale

The people of Canada are a strong and highly proud group of people. Their heritage is a huge part of the Canadian national pride.
We know that the country of Canada is located north of the United States and the two countries form the continent of North America. But when was Canada discovered and by who?

You have to go way back to the fifteen hundreds to find the answer. The environment in the fifteen hundreds was very exciting. England, France, and Spain were all sending explorers to the far corners of the known world in search of riches and new lands to claim for their homeland.

The French has made a previous failed attempt to explore the area of Canada in the year 1525. The explorer Verazzani made a valiant effort but came up short. In the following ten years the battle for discovery continued. At the insistence of the admiral of France Philip Chabot the king of France was convinced to send an expedition back to Canada.

Chabot suggested to the king to send the explorer Cartier to the New World as quickly as possible to avoid Spain from forming colonies first.

Cartier left for Canada on twentieth of April 1534. His fleet only consisted of two ships; this was to benefit the explorer from a speed aspect. In only twenty days Cartier reached the coast of Newfoundland. From there the explorer passed through the Strait of Belle and came to the coast of New Brunswick.

Within two weeks Cartier had reached what was called then referred to by the Indians as Gaspe. At Gaspe Cartier erected a large cross estimated to be over forty feet high. In effect and based on the law at the time Cartier had claimed all of Canada for France.

Canada is a wonderful country with beautiful scenery and very friendly people. If you have the opportunity make sure your go north and experience the history and beauty of Canada.
