Articles and Products of History Boomer Esiason Boomer Esiason, considered to be the most prolific left-handed quarterback in history, was born Norman Julius Esiason on April 17, in West Islip, New York. After going to college in Maryland, he signed up with the Cincinnati Bengals and, as their quarterback, led them to a Superbowl victory in 1988 and was the NFL Most Valuable Player in the same year. In addition to serving as a quarterback for the Bengals for 14 years, Boomer Esiason also played for the New York Jets and for Arizona. He is in the NFL all-time top ten list for most passing yards; when he retired, Boomer Esiason has passed over 36,000 yards and had made 2, 851 completions. In 1996, he threw 522 yards in one game, the third most in NFL history. During Boomer’s last professional game, he threw a stunning 77 yard touchdown, which was a memorable career finish in 1997.
Most recently, Boomer Esiason contributes his expertise and insight into the game as a color commentator (one who gives background information and analysis to the play-by-play account). He was seen on ABC’s Monday Night Football from 1998-2000. He now works as a commentator for Westwood One, NFL today,, and CBS Sports. Boomer Esiason is also an outspoken advocate for cystic fibrosis research; his son, Gunner, has the disease, and the family has set up the Boomer Esiason Foundation to raise millions of dollars to find a cure for the disease.
