Articles and Products of History Benjamin FranklinBenjamin Franklin (fondly referred to as “the first American”) could be the model for the new “breed” of man who was developing in the colonies. Franklin was interested in expressing his belief and faith in his God and his liberty. He was the first American to gain world recognition in literature, public affairs, science, government, philanthropy and government.
Benjamin Franklin kept watch over the country and is the only man who signed all of the four important documents of that era. His signature is on the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty Alliance with France, the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain, and the much beloved law of the U.S., the Constitution. Franklin is known as the first internationally known writer from America. Franklin had great influence, and his opinions were held in high regard by farmers, statesmen, and even scientists. He was not above speaking his mind, and when he spoke, everyone listened. His wisdom and insight influenced much of what we now regard as the foundation of America. He was a brilliant inventor who looked for practical things to help his fellow man. A few of his inventions include bifocals, the Franklin stove and the lightning rod. He is the most renown Scientist to come out of early America. His studies were even recognized by the Royal Society of London, which was a major honor for a colonial American. Franklin totally reformed the postal system, he formed a city fire department in Philadelphia, and he completely overhauled the city’s police department. He raised money for many institutions and he founded the University of Pennsylvania. It is hard to know what America would be like if it were not for Benjamin Franklin. His deep patriotism, intelligence and philanthropy helped to mold America to be able to stand alone, independently. Further Reading
