Articles and Products of History Art HistorySome of the earliest forms of Art can be seen on cave walls. Ancient man used drawings to tell the story of their lives and history. Hieroglyphics are also a form of early art. The ancient Egyptians used to tell their history by drawing pictures in burial chambers of their kings and Queens. Some of the most familiar are the hieroglyphics found in the tomb of King Tut.
As the centuries passed the process of developing different colors of ink was refined. This combined with improvements in making cloth afforded the upper class the ability to practice drawing and painting. During medieval times the Kings would commission a court artist. Many times the court artist would paint portraits of the King and Queen. Additionally the court artist would paint the landscape of the property within the kingdom. Perhaps one of the best-known, artists of the past was Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo was to revolutionize the art world. Da Vinci would write books, which discussed different painting techniques, such as the use of shading and the use of color in paintings. Some of the most famous paintings by Leonardo are the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. Da Vinci is credited for documenting the science behind painting and sculpture. Painters and sculptors today still look back at Leonardos notes as a guide to becoming a world-class artist. As the centuries passed Kings and Queens commissioned Royal Artists to paint and sculpt for them. Possessing art was and still is a major status symbol. Today paintings from the Masters such as Van Gogh and Monet can cost millions of dollars. Because art is subjective you never know how much apiece could be worth. There are reports of a Monet selling at auction for over three million dollars. It just goes to show you, do not throw away that old painting your mother gave you who knows it could be from a future master. Further Reading
