23 May Captain William Kidd was hanged in London after he was convicted of piracy and murder.
24 July - Antoine Laumet de la Mothe Cadillac founded a French settlement
between Lakes St. Clair and Erie. Located beside some straits,
Cadillac appropriately named the settlement Fort Pontchartrain du
Detroit, since "detroit" is French for straits.
Act of Settlement in Britain. This settlement establishes the Hanoverian Monarchy.
